The East African Court of Justice (EACJ or ‘the Court’), is one of the organs of the East African Community established under Article 9 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community. Established in November 2001, the Court’s major responsibility is to ensure the adherence to law in the interpretation and application of and compliance with the EAC Treaty.

Arusha is the temporary seat of the Court until the Summit determines its permanent seat. The Court’s sub-registries are located in the respective National Courts in the Partner States.

The core design and development team for the Court project consisted of Tom, who built the WordPress website, and Michael, who designed the website. Sharon, Edward and Dancan also worked on content migration and template tweaking closer to the end of the project.

The Challenge

The design of the new website is a large stepping stone from the previous website that was originally built back in the early 2000s. The new website not only had to be web accessible, but also meet usability tests. Michael designed the first few drafts of the website that went through our own internal usability testing methods before being presented to the client.

The Extensions

Several WordPress compatible extensions (both commercial and custom) were used to complete this project.

The Results

The combination of WordPress CMS and various APIs provided the Court with the perfect solution that they required for their new website. The new platform allowed for quick content editing, and the ability to easily grow and expand their online presence.
